The Saint Now Has a Full Liquor License — And the Cocktails Are Worth the Wait

The Saint has always been St. Helena's most interesting place to spend an evening. The candlelit ambiance, the cult Napa wines, the live music, the crowd that actually knows what they're talking about when the conversation turns to terroir. But something has been missing -- and we're thrilled to tell you that missing thing has officially arrived.

The Saint now holds a full liquor license, and with it comes a proper craft cocktail program designed to match the elevated experience you've come to expect from us.

This is not a well-drink situation. Think carefully composed cocktails built with premium spirits, fresh ingredients, and the same attention to detail we bring to every wine flight and charcuterie board that leaves our kitchen. The same intimacy of our historic 1890s building -- once the Bank of Saint Helena -- now sets the stage for St. Helena's most exciting new cocktail destination.

Whether you're starting your evening with an aperitivo, celebrating something special, or simply settling in for a long night of good conversation, our cocktail menu is built for exactly that kind of evening.

Come in, pull up a seat, and let us pour you something worth talking about.

Walk-ins welcome. Everyone 21+ welcome. Find us at 1351 Main Street, St. Helena -- open late on Fridays and Saturdays.

Saint Social Club - Private Access to Hidden Gem Wineries

The first in a series of posts, we are exploring Napa Valley's hidden gems that highlight examples of the unique offerings when you join The Saints and Sinners Social Club.  This blog post dives into three remarkable boutique wineries that thrive without the presence of a traditional tasting room. Each of these small-scale producers crafts unique, exquisite wines that capture the essence of Napa's diverse terroir, offering a personal touch and a story behind every bottle.

Gibbs Vineyards – 2002 Cabernet Franc

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Gibbs Vineyards is a testament to the region's rich viticultural heritage. The Cross Creek Vineyard, located between Howell Mountain and Glass Mountain, was initially planted with fruit trees in the 1870s before transitioning to wine grapes in the 1960s. Similarly, the Centa Vineyard on Lodi Lane, established in 1865 by Eli McLean York, boasts a legacy of winemaking that continues to this day. https://gibbsnapavalley.com/

One standout from Gibbs Vineyards is their 2022 Cabernet Franc. This wine exemplifies the winery's dedication to producing exceptional varietals that capture the essence of Napa Valley's terroir. While specific tasting notes for the 2022 vintage are not available on their website, Gibbs Vineyards' commitment to quality suggests that this Cabernet Franc offers a harmonious balance of flavors and aromas.

For those interested in experiencing Gibbs Vineyards' offerings, including the 2022 Cabernet Franc, visiting their website provides insights into their vineyards and winemaking philosophy. Additionally, joining their wine club offers exclusive access to limited releases and events, allowing members to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Napa Valley winemaking.

White Lane:  2019 Cabernet Sauvignon

Nestled in the heart of St. Helena, Napa Valley, White Lane is a testament to the dedication of the Lies family. Since 1998, they have meticulously cultivated their vineyard, producing 100% Cabernet Sauvignon initially shared exclusively with family and friends. The patriarch, Dr. Jim Lies, a former cardiologist from Kansas, found inspiration in Napa's rich terroir and the health benefits of red wine, a passion he shared with his friend, the legendary Robert Mondavi. This camaraderie led to the planting of vines on the Lies' St. Helena property, laying the foundation for White Lane's exceptional wines. https://whitelanewine.com

The 2019 White Lane Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the family's commitment to quality and tradition. Aged for 30 months in 50% new French oak barrels, this wine showcases firm, structured tannins complemented by forward acidity, offering a seamless palate experience. Aromas of dark chocolate truffles, cherry pie, and subtle pencil shavings invite exploration, while the palate reveals notes of cedar, allspice, and vanilla bean. This single-vineyard, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a remarkable find within Napa Valley, especially at its accessible price point.

For those seeking to experience the essence of Napa Valley through the lens of a dedicated family winery, White Lane offers a unique opportunity. Their limited-production wines reflect the rich history and meticulous craftsmanship that define the Lies family's approach to viticulture. Exploring White Lane's offerings provides a glimpse into the passion and tradition that continue to shape Napa Valley's esteemed wine culture.

Claudio Family Cellars – 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon

Claudio Family Cellars, established in 2021, is a boutique winery dedicated to producing small-lot wines that capture the essence of their fruit. The founder's journey began in 1998 with home winemaking, eventually transitioning to professional production in 2021. After initial vintages in Santa Rosa, the operation moved to St. Helena in Napa Valley in 2023. Their winemaking philosophy emphasizes simplicity and minimal intervention, allowing the unique characteristics of each varietal to shine.  https://claudiofamilycellars.com/

A standout offering from Claudio Family Cellars is their 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder, Napa Valley. This deep purple wine pre ents notes of cedar, blackberry, ripe plums, and black cherry on the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied with elements of hearty ripe plums, black olives, and dark chocolate, finishing with sturdy tannins that will soften over time.

For those interested in exploring Claudio Family Cellars' wines, their website offers detailed information on current selections and the winery's history. Their commitment to minimal intervention winemaking and strong relationships with vineyard managers ensures that each bottle authentically reflects the varietal's character and the terroir from which it originates.

The Saint Recognized for Downtown Entertainment

Published on February 6, 2025 in the Saint Helena Star, the article spotlights The Saint, a downtown St. Helena wine lounge defying Napa’s early bedtime by staying open until 11 p.m. on weekends. Proprietor Heidi Bamburg showcases small wineries—including her husband’s Night Wines—and founded the Saints and Sinners Social Club to feature these boutique producers. With live music, private parties, and creative fundraisers like drag shows and post-film bashes, The Saint adds a vibrant edge to traditional tasting rooms. Click Here for details.

Securing a full liquor license has been complicated by state requirements for a full kitchen, which conflict with The Saint’s city permit as a tasting room. In the meantime, Bamburg crafts inventive low- and non-alcoholic options like a low-alcohol espresso martini and a hemp-based “amaro,” catering to guests who might be “wined out.” Nonetheless, oenophiles still flock to The Saint for unique pours and a memorable Napa Valley experience.

For feedback and comments, please email us by clicking the envelope link below. We’d love to hear from you.
